Default Would You Choose Throw Up or Soy Milk?

So here's the issue... I exclusively pump for my 1 year old. She still refuses solids so she relys on me pumping. I am 10 weeks pregnant and my milk supply is going down. I supplement with my freezer stash. The problem is, within the last 3 months, we've figured out (finally) that DD is highly sensitive to dairy. While I've since cut dairy from my diet, the only freezer milk I have left is from when I ate dairy. I can predict the projectile vomit by when I feed her freezer milk.

On average, she's eating about 40 ounces a day -- 10 of which is freezer milk. Knowing that she is not eating ANY solids, I'm wondering if it would be safe/healthy for me to supplement breast milk with organic soy milk rather than the freezer milk (I just feel like a bad mom feeding her something I know will make her sick).

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Fine to introduce soy as a milk substitute after age one. You may want to think about donating the milk you have in your freezer to your local milk bank.

I would definately try the soy. Will she eat any solids at all? Maybe this would be a good transition time. My LO dumped her soy milk-just refused it-but she did get into soy yogurt. She also ate (yeah, unhealty, but a nice treat once in while) Lemon Meringue pudding. There are other dairy free puddings too, just read all the labels.
One of my favorite cook books is Whole Foods for Babies and Toddlers (you can order it from your local LLL or LLLI.org) There are some good dairy free foods for beginning eaters!
    Good Luck!

She is still refusing to eat any solids... We are going to get her evaluated by an early intervention eating specialist. For a very long time I've felt she's just not ready. With my milk quickly going away, I'm feeling like we've run out of time. So, we're going to have her evaluated to make sure there isn't a problem. I've actually tried soy yogurt with her but she doesn't want any part of it

My daughter is also allergic to dairy. She gets a tummyache, bright red almost bleeding in the diaper area and diahrea . SHe did the same thing with soy and with pedi-sure she got constapated!. We ended up with rice milk. Not to discourage you, but just incase its more options.

Just to let you know rice milk is not an adequate substitute for breastmilk. It does not have the calcium or fat needed among other things. It is not a bad substitute but not adequate nutrition wise. Dairy intolerances/ allergies can be serious so I would not try the pumped milk without at least speaking to a doctor or allergist. Soy yogurt and milk taste pretty different so the soy milk is still worth a shot, especially if you are only supplementing. It can be possible for a dairy and soy intolerance to go hand in hand but many can tolerate soy well. It is worth a try.

I gave the LO about an once of soymilk last night... I will have to watch closely. She was very fussy last night and woke up every half hour for the first 3 hours of "sleep". That poor child had more gas than a 45 year old man.

When I gave her some of the freezer milk a few days ago, she threw up on 2 separate occassions. So, I'm pretty sure the freezer milk is not the way I want to go. And, I guess I'm just being stubborn. I've made it over a year exclusively pumping without ever using formula... I don't want to start now. I'm hoping that doesn't make me a bad mom... Cause really, if it comes down to it, I will do whatever it takes to make sure she's healthy.

Oh... As for the food diary... We don't keep one because she won't even allow solids in her mouth. One the rare occasion she puts food in her mouth, she spits it out immediately. A few times she's tried to swallow something and it causes her to gag and throw up, so, we're pretty confident that her belly has not seen anything except breast milk and (now) 1 oz. of soy milk.

The food diary is for what you are eating as well. What you eat, she "eats". Hope it goes well for you! I know it is difficult.
