Default Help... My period is back.. Does that mean I'm not producing enough milk?

My baby is 11 weeks old and he has been on me constantly (yesterday and today). I thought that he was having a growth spurt. Then I got my period back today. Could it be that I'm not producing enough milk? He has all of his soaking wet diapers and I'm able to pump a few ounces out a day for storage. Does the period come back that quickly?

You're probably just experiencing a dip in your supply. AF came back for me at 8 weeks pp and I usually have a dip in supply around the first day or so, but back up there after. I hope that's the same for you.

Since your baby's diapers are okay, and you're actually pumping a few ounces on top of the nursing, I think your supply is JUST FINE! Your supply may have dipped a bit, but your baby is obviously able to make up for that by nursing more frequently. I agree with the PP: your supply will bounce back in very short order.

Thanks for the replies. Is is normal for it to come back this quick? I was hoping to be "period free" for a while. I guess it's good that it came though. Now I know I have started to ovulate.

Normal is relative. It's normal for me, so perhaps normal for you? Then there are other moms who are period free for the length of the nursing relationship. It runs the gamut.

At about 9 weeks I started spotting and just knew that AF had returned. I only spotted for 2 days. My OB said it was not AF but that postpartum bleeding can show up and disappear for quite awhile. So maybe you'll get lucky like me and be able to avoid AF a little longer!

You might not be ovulating but you might be no way to know for sure without fertilty signs (great resource on that here)...
best bet if you don't want a pregnancy, is to be careful - whatever that means to you

As Tiffony said "normal" is relative. Now that you may not experience another cycle for months again, after this ends and that can be well within the 'typical' range as well. After 9 months of conditioning itself to being pregnant, one's body can take as long to figure out how not to be

We posted at the exact same time. What an odd coincidence.
