I'm a first time mother, and i'd like some mother to mother advice. My baby is 18 days old and recently he refuses to burp, cries and looks as if he's in pain, and arches his back after a feed. He seems really windy aswell. Sometimes he will burp. I've tried all the different methods of burping, and i even sit him up for 15 mins at least after each feed. I'm at the end of my tether, it's seriously getting me depressed.
I haven't seen a health visitor yet, because it's policy here that they arrive 28 days after the birth. Sounds silly to me considering i'm a first time mum and i've already been discharged from my midwife. So i called up the health centre anyways a midwife told me it's prob colic or reflux, she said i should try infocol. Thing is my baby's on Nystasin so i thght i'd ok it with his doc first.
The doc said i can give you the medicine but no guarantee it'll work. You obviously haven't mastered burping your baby. He asked me if i was a first time mum, i said yes. Then he arrogantly said thght so you need someone to show you how to burp the baby. I didn't wana argue with the man, coz frankly i was angry and upset at the way he had communicated to me. He wasn't sympathetic just plain arrogant, and he refused to accept it could be colic or reflux. He just made it sound like i was an inadequate mother or something.
Thing is i've looked after my baby brother and baby nephews since i can remember and burping them has never been a problem. I don't think it's the method of burping that's failing, my baby just doesn't seem to burp.
The health visitor said i should get the infocol, my sis and others with kids have told me the same coz they've used it and apparently it works.
Anyways what do you think ?Any advice for me? How about cheering me up a little, all this conflicting advice and condescending health professionals have really made me feel low.
