Default Which postion did you find most helpful?

When learning to breastfeed which position did you find most helpful?
Personally I thought the cross cradle/assymetrical latch allowed me to get a better hold of my LO, then when I became more comfortable I used the cradle hold and lying down position.

Cool Re: Which postion did you find most helpful?

I used the football hold (?) where his head was in my hand and his feet were by my elbow right up until I got the hang of nursing, and when he got too long to hold that way. Then I did the lying down and cradle. Now we just nurse cradle for the most part.

At the very beginning I only used the bobby. It wasn't until my lo was 2/3 months that I started experimenting and I like the cradle when walking around or the lying down position.

Because DS was 10lbs at birth and I had a c-section, I used the side lying position at first and it was a life saver!!! Now we do that for nights and naps and cross-cradel all other times

The hospital I gave birth in encouraged the football hold, which I did use in the beginning (with help from lots of pillows surrounding me and DD...) However, when I got home, I found the cross-cradle position (with help from my Boppy) to be the most comfortable...

These days, however, we are mostly using the cradle position as we sit in daddy's rocker/recliner, or side-lying as we are co-sleeping

I've always used the cradle hold and it's great to have a hand free. The position though that I found the most useful to master in the early months is the side laying position It takes practice, but you get a lot more sleep that way in the long run, especially if you are okay with cosleeping.

Mostly football for the first few weeks. Now, we only use cradle hold. I agree with PP, it is well worth it to try to get the laying down position perfected as you get more sleep this way!

***Oh yeah! My pedi said in the beginning its easier for LO if you use the same position every time so as not to confuse them. Until things start going smoother...

We must have the same child!

And of course the side-lying at night - I'm too tired to sit up.
