Default diarrhea/frequent stools at 7.5 months

I know this is yet another "poop" question but I cannot seem to find a definative answer online so far. My son is 7 1/2 months old and about 2 weeks ago he started having several (5-6) BMs per day...sometimes more. They have been waking him up in the middle of the night. They are very runny/sticky/mucusy. His normal output was once a day and a normal, soft consistancy. He's been on solids for almost 2 months now and has never shown any reaction to the foods he's eaten. I nurse him about 7 times per day, have had no change in my diet either, and he seems to poop either during or immediately after I nurse him now(all super runny/wet). Our ped has referred us to a specialist because my LO seems happy and healthy otherwise...Im just so worried because he doesn't seem to be improving at all and I have cut his solids back to just very basic things (Banana, rice and applesauce) for the past week. It seems that the stools are getting worse (more liquidy and full of mucus). Yesterday I noticed that his poop has these weird, tiny, brownish/red worm looking things in it...they dont look like pinworms but I find it very alarming! The color of the poop itself is bright to dark yellow. I dont know if this is diarrhea or what...does anyone have any experince with this or any advice? ANYTHING would be much appreciated!

The worm-like things you describe probably come from the bananas. (Think banana bread.) You could try completely eliminating solids and see how that goes. At that age, DS would sometimes not have solids for a couple of days and he didn't mind at all. Even though you are just feeding basic things, it could still be food related. You might check out the allergies forums and see what the moms there think.

I am having the EXACT same problem! Andy is 8.5 months, and this has gone on for the past 3-4 weeks. Poops about 4 times/day; very slimy looking. The pediatrition did a stool culture, and all came back fine. He's nursing 6 times/day and has been eating solids for about 2 months as well. I don't know what to think of it. I'm taking him in for his 9 month appointment soon, and will have them follow up on it. You might want to try a course of Culturelle. It's an OTC probiotic, like the active cultures in yogurt. However, didn't seem to do any thing for Andy. Let me know if you find out anything.

heather2--it does all seem very strange doesn't it? Sorry to hear you're having the same problems however its a little reassuring that Im not the only one. We are taking our little guy to a GI specialist in a couple of days...I'll be sure to share whatever info I can get once we go. I've heard that probiotics can help however I think Im going to wait until our appointment. Thanks for the advice tho!

Is he teething? Sometimes the extra saliva generated can cause what seems to be diarrhea. This article mentions it. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T106500.asp
