    Unhappy Advice needed!! Sore nipples!!

This is my first thread so bare with me.

My baby, Clara, is 10 days old. She is my second daughter. I breastfed my first daughter for 3 weeks, but that was 4 and a half years ago. Well, my problem is that the past few days I have dreaded nursing my baby on my right breast. Both nipples hurt so bad. My right breast however hurts with every little suck that she takes. On my left it hurts at first but then it goes away. Another thing I noticed was that at the end of my nipple, the part closer to the aereola, is swollen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to remedy this.

My doctor gave me Lansinoh ointment before I left the hospital (doesn't work).
I 've tried breaking her suction and letting her latch on again, that doesn't work either.

I'm so frustrated. It hurts so bad that it makes me want to cry...

Here is an article from Leaven on Sore Nipples.

One of many suggestions I have read is to let bm air dry on your nipples.

I had sore nipples... even drying off after a shower was painful I saw my LC and she said the prob was two fold... first my DD slurped me like a straw, therefore not having the wide latch that she needed. Second she was taking me very shallow. My milk flow was so strong that she was still getting what she needed BUT it hurt me. So we did the football hold for about a week at almost every feeding and eventually all was well... good luck!

do you have cracks? That might take a while to heal. watch out for signs of infection and if you have a fever you might have to go to your doctor. I think its normal for your nipples to look funny or diffent in the early weeks as your body gets used to nursing again.
DO you think you have a plugged duct on the one side?
that would be hard and and can make it harder for the baby to latch on.
plugs can be hard to get rid of.

    Hi. Hang in there!
My nipples hurt too at the beginning. It was so painful, I dreaded each feed. Initially, I thought it was because baby was sucking so often and so hard, the abrasion was something my sensitive nipples were not used to. Later, the pain lessened after I corrected baby's latching. (I had the baby too low, and he was pulling on my nipples.) Here's the website with video clips that helped teach me proper latching. http://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html It isn't going to be like this forever. Just take it one feeding at a time.

oh sweety. I SO feel your pain. both of my children did a number on me in the early days. my son and daughter both took litereal chunks out of my nipples and I had to exclusively pump finger feed, they had tied tongues and horiible latches. thank God in heaven for lc's!! get in touch with an lc asap! and have them see yor latch so you can get it corrected and just keep practicing. it will get better!it usually peaks by 2 weeks and lessens after that. you can do this! just keep up the good work. and remember get some help ok!!\
    HUGS!
