Default Am I doing the right thing?

Had DS at the doc today because now the excema has spread all over his face (and arms and legs, ugh)!

We were talking about his reflux and how I haven' really noticed a diference with the zantac. He still throws up ALL DAY. WTH??

She said that if it doesn't clear up the next option would be formula mixed with cereal! I called DH and told him (because i was pretty upset, KWIM) and he said "Don't listen to those doctors, they don't know what they are talking about". but...

Is this your regular ped or a specialist? Sorry no personal experience but I do have a friend that said they saw a specialist regarding their DD's reflux. I would probably go that route before resorting to formula/cereal. I have heard that mentioned before but I always thought that was a choking risk.

Just wanted to share that oral Zantac didn't help my DD's reflux either. She was on it for at least 2-3 weeks, and it wasn't working, so we stopped giving it. Her pedi ended up prescribing oral Prilosec (generic Omeprazole), which has worked wonderfully. We give 1ml, twice a day (usually morning and bedtime.) DD likes it too, cause it's flavored like bananas.

Before you go the route of formula thickened with cereal (which I also think is a bad idea, it's a choking hazard) couldn't you spoon-feed him some cereal after he nurses? I'm not sure how old your DS is, so I wasn't sure if that was an option...

You should see if a different med might help. Might be something to discuss with your pedi...

Good luck mama I know from experience that reflux is a tough one to deal with...

I'm sure the links above will discuss this, but I just wanted to mention that reflux meds don't stop the spitting up - but rather, it makes what might get regurgitated into the esphagus/mouth, etc not as acidic therefore not uncomfortable. So the spitting up may still occur, it's just not painful.

RE: the excema, the shots do sometimes cause some flare ups in some kids, as do pets and certain detergents (among other things)

And your DH is right, in this case... I'd just watch his growth and overall health and I'll bet by 6 mo the spitting up will stop (as it almost always does )
