Question how much expressed milk per day?

I am going back to work soon, full time...I am usually gone 9-10 hours (including commute) per day. I have a small freezer stash built up - about 15 5 oz. bags. My LO is 14 weeks. Any bottles we have given have been no more than 2 or 3 oz. because we were usually giving him "extra" after nursing, like before bed.

Since he is pretty much EBF, I have NO idea how much he eats per feeding! I don't think pumping is a good indication, because he doesn't always take both sides, or he doesn't always eat for as long as a pumping session, but sometimes he eats longer!

How much thawed breastmilk should I leave for him, if I am gone 9 hours? I know thawed milk is only good for 24 hours, and I don't want to waste any. 10 oz.? 15 oz.? What does your average 3 1/2 month old eat? I know "average" doesn't really exist, but I would like a ballpark figure so I am not either starving or overfeeding DS while I am at work. Thanks!

I think the rule of thumb is 1 to 1 & 1/2 oz. for every hour you are away. I went back to work at 3 months & have always left 16 oz. (I am gone for 9 & 1/2 hours). DD typically eats 12 oz, sometimes 16 oz. She is now 8 months.

My dd hardly took any milk at first. I sent in 4 bottles of 2 oz each. I was luckily if she would take 3 of them (8:30 to 4pm). Usually she would take about 4 to 6 oz a day. She has slowly been increasing the amount she takes. We are up to about 12 ozs during that time. She seemed to reverse cycle though so I think it was okay.
