Default 11 Months - No Solids. How late did your LO start?

My daughter is 11 1/2 months old and still refuses solids. I let her play with food at least once a day and figure when she's ready, she'll eat it...

I'm curious, has anyone else waited till after a year to start solids -- either by your choice or the choice of the LO?

    Thanks!

we didn't start getting serious about solids until ds was 11.5 months. he just wasn't interested before then, so we didn't push it, and i also believe in the benefits of only breastmilk for the first year. but i was starting to feel drained, so i started giving him lunch everyday of usually baby oatmeal and then a random veggie pureed. he sometimes ate, sometimes didn't, but liked playing with the food! ds became very interested in food when he could feed himself well, and could chew different textures, which was around 13 or 14 months.

i should also add that i was being a classic over-protective first time mom, and was very, very scared of giving him crackers or anything that involved lots of chewing too soon. i think most parents start crackers and other chewy things sooner.

My son is 12 1/2 months and has little interest in food. He still nurses 4 or 5 times a day, and eats a couple small meals. And by small meals I mean 1/4 piece of buttered toast, 5 bites of applesauce, or a slice of cheese.

I was driving myself crazy, wondering why he wouldn't eat because his pedi told me that babies should only be nursing twice a day by twelve months. But I have decided to trust my son to tell me when he is ready to start eating more foods. As long as you're offering, you're doing your job.

    any allergies?
many kids with tummy trouble will self regulate their solids intake.

Thank for your comments... Isabella does have a sensitive stomach -- she projectile vomits often. Actually, since we've tied it back to dairy, the throwing up has gone WAY down (we're down to 1-2 x's per week rather than 4-5 times a day). I have tried to offer a variety of fruits and veggies and have stayed away from dairy.

Even though she has 8 teeth, she gags on purees, so, I haven't tried anything more yet. I believe she will let me know when she's ready. We had been referred to a specialist that we saw a couple times. However, anytime you go to the doctor, they find something "wrong". My intuition is that she's just not ready for solids. Before I continue taking her to a doctor to "learn to use her tongue", I thought I'd get the expert advice of other mothers.

I exclusively pump (we never could get her to the breast) so I look forward to her eating solids so I can pump less. Looks like I'll continue what I'm doing and re-evaluate in a couple months.
    Thanks!

phew. my little man is 9 months today and has no or very little interest in solids. I started to try him at 6 months and he just refuses, so I backed off. I am under lots of pressure from HV to push him more and offer the breast less but I find that very hard even think about doing, elt alone doing it. he does show some interest in food and will eat the odd finger of toast but nothing with a spoon!

the thing I am struggling with is the night time feeds. he sleeps with my husband and me, he hates his cot and after a few moths of walking around with him all night I gave up and put him in our bed. now the problem is that he feeds every twenty minutes! I'm shattered. I have a toddler to look after on my own all day and am just so tired.

can anyone suggest a way to reduce the night feeds? I don't want to cut them out, but I don't want to confuse him either? has anyone else had this feeding loads at night thing? he feeds more at night than during the day! the HV thinks that is the reason why he's not interested in solid food as he eats enough at night to last the whole day

really appreciate the help. his big borhter eats really well and I had no problems with him at all. funny how they are so different!

have you tried a pacifier at all? My son will sometimes wake at night and if I pop the paci back in he will drift right off to sleep. He really only nurses in the morning a few times, but certainly not every 20 min.

My LO is 6.5 months old and she just plays with the food. I try to spoon it to her and she just spits it back out. I don't think she has lost the thrust/tounge reflex yet. I offer her rice mixed with breastmilk every few days. I am not convinced she needs the cereal quite yet as I bf her all day everyday and she is growing just fine. The pedi said to try it so I did and she doesn't like it. Everyone I talk to is suprised I don't have her on fruits and veggies and stuff but I am just going to go really slow. I figure that when she is ready she'll let me know. She does open her mouth for the spoon but then spits everything out, I don't think she gets hardly anything. I know she gets enough breatsmilk and I am obsessive about breastfeeding her as long as I can, if that means she doesn't want solids until she's 10-11 months thats fine with me.
