I have had concerns with my inablity to pump milk. Yesterday I stopped by a store that has lactation speciailists on hand. I was talking to her about how I cannot pump enoug somtimes to keep up with ds. She told me that I should be pumping ATLEAST 6-8 oz each time I am away from ds. I am lucky if I can get 2.5 oz (which I have heard that is normal). So why would she tell me I should be pumping more and should I be pumping out more?
Her suggestion is to continue with my Fenugreek and pump after EACH feeding again, like I did when ds was a newborn.
Will this help increase my pumping supply? If so, how long do you think it will take? Do you think it should be better after 2 weeks? She suggested that if it does not work I should rent a hospital grade pump and do the same thing of pumping after each feeding.
DS is 6.5 mo old and I initially wanted to continue bf until 12 mo, but now I am wanting to go until he is 15 mo.
Also, I have started a "purer" form of fenugreek that the health store specialist suggested to help increase my supply. I am taking 2-750mg capsules 3 times a day and drink between 90-110 oz water a day.
The only reason I think my personal supply is low is b/c ds' diapers are not AS wet as they used to be. He still makes about 4-5 wet disposables a day and his bowel movements are about every other day. I cut down on his solids to see if he would nurse more, but he is nursing the same as before we started.
