Default Refusing to eat before bed

My 10 month old is suddenly having a hard time with his last feeding of the day. Until about a week ago, he would eat from both breasts before going to bed, then generally sleep through the night. Suddenly, he has started eating from one side only, pulling away after about 4 or 5 minutes, and refusing to eat any more. I continue to offer but he just cries until I put him to bed. The problem is that he's started waking up in the middle of the night hungry and cannot seem to put himself back to sleep without being fed. This is discouraging to me because I'd basically stopped feeding him in the middle of the night as of 6 months and, with some gentle encouragement, he was sleeping through the whole way.

He is teething, so I'm thinking that may have something to do with it, but I just feel like instead of making progress we're going in the wrong direction!

    Any advice?

I would almost bet it's a temporary situation due to teething or baby practicing a new milestone.
