Default pump tubing... How do you clean it?

There is a black spot inside of my breast pump tubing. Could it be mold? I need to clean them to be safe and I can't figure out the best way to do it. And to get them dry. Tips? Thanks!

I have these medela sterilizer bags you can put your tubing or any other pumping supplies into and just pop in the microwave. I got mine at Babies R Us. The directions are right on the bag. If you don't have those I would assume any other sterilizer would work just as well.

I just washed mine in hot soapy water, rinsed in cool water and hung to dry. You can also attach the tubing to your pump and run 1-2 minutes to remove any remaining moisture.

I have used the medela bags mentioned above, but I also think you can put it in boiling water for a minute. I usually take mine outside in swing them around (sort of like a lasso) to get most of the moisture out, then I hang them on the cabinet handles to dry.

That's a good way to get the water out of them. It sounds like mold. I wash mine infrequently because air is the only thing that goes through them. They can also be boiled. A local maternity resource store told me they could get the mold out of them ... not sure how but maybe you have a store that sells pumps near you that you could call if all else fails.

Do you think it's safe to use it tomorrow, even if I'm unable to get it out tonight?

I use the medela pump. I wanted to have longer tubes then the pump regionally came with. My husband went to lowes or homedepot, and you can find tubes the same size in diameter, you pick the length. You have to switch the little parts on the end of the tubes.. but thats about the hardest thing you will have to do AND its way cheaper! HTH

I used those microwavable bags from Madela. You just put 2-4 oz of water in the bag then microwave for a couple minutes. It worked for me.

I would guess it's safe to use even with a little mold in it ... milk doesn't come in contact with the tubes. HTH!
