Steam helps. How about saline drops in the nose? That can loosen it so you can suction it. Check with your ped though, I don't know if there is an age requirement for saline drops (although it is just saline).

Nursing really helps if you can get them clear enough to breathe. With a good latch the nipple presses on the soft palate and can reduce congestion.

Hmm I dont know about the TTO. I know babies, especially newborns, are very sensitive to smell. If they smell something they don't like or are not familiar with, they can reject nursing.

My little guy got congested around that time too. I did the steam showers several times a day, the saline/syring bulb and nursed as much as possible. I also used a Vicks nightlight plug in to put the menthol in the air. Hope he feels better soon!!

Aww, what a cutie you have. I have had to put a drop of saline in each nostril and suction it when she had trouble breathing to nurse. Baby hated it, but it worked! Sleeping on her side may help, too.

you can also put a little breast milk in the nose in place of saline

My little man gets congested bad, but its mostly after he wakes up in the morning. I run a humidifier, and hat seems to help him a lot. Good luck to you! Its so hard when they can't breathe good...poor babies.

Saline or BM and suction frequently...cool mist humidifier and a hot steamy bathroom. That's it.

After putting the saline in, if you tilt her head back for a few seconds or up to a minute to allow it to loosen things up before suctioning, you'll likely get more mucous out.

It is so sad when they're so small and sick.
