Default Grapefruit Seed Extract and Thrush

My 2 1/2 week old and I have thrush. She has a little bit on her tounge and I have some minor nipple itching.

We have Nystatin for her and for me, but I have read that it doesn't work very well. In addition I am taking probiotics.

Has anyone ever used liquid grapefruit seed extract rubbed in the baby's mouth and on your nipplies to clear up thrush? The one website I saw said to mix ten drops in one ounce of water and apply.

We had thrush and Gentian Violet is what we used. Read the info from Dr. Jack Newman on www.breastfeedingonline.com

    Good luck.

I had thrush around the same time as you but didn't try the GSE. I will say that Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment ultimately saved our breastfeeding relationship! We also did baking soda/water and vinegar/water rinses after each feeding.

I am hoping that, in your case, the thrush doesn't progress beyond that mild itching!

Here is a great, thorough, thrush resource:

And here is Dr. Jack Newman's candida protocol (includes info on GSE):
