Default How to give more protein

Hi all. Hope someone out there can help.

What are good sources of protein - besides meat and fish - to give to a toothless and very tiny 9 month old? I am not comfortable with the idea of giving her pureed meat or fish yet. My ped suggested pureeing some tofu which sounds very yucky to me.

    Any other ideas?

Beans and lentils are a great source of protein, and can be introduced at 9mos (source: here). Check out this page for some recipes.

Though we dont give cow's milk until 1yr of age, my Ped said we can start introducing Yoghurt slowly. Cottage cheese is a good source of protein too.

I agree with beans and lentils. Although we alway found it better to offer those, especially lentils, around lunch instead of dinner. Otherwise we were in for a gassy night

I love the website www.wholesomebabyfood.com . It tells what foods baby can have at what age, what nutrients/vitamins/minerals each has and how to prepare each food so that it brings out the best flavor. This has been a great resource for me to find what foods are high in vitamin d and iron-rich foods so I don't have to give vitamin drops. I'm sure finding protein sources will be no different!

For what it is worth - my DD LOVES tofu, she can't get enough of it.

My son loved tofu. And we never pureed it. Its so soft! We just cubed it so he could pick it up himself.

We did yogurt (plain, whole milk) and cottage cheese. And shredded cheese occasionally. The yogurt (or cottage cheese) is a daily thing for us, and he loves it.

I can't believe I forgot about yogurt. I guess it's because I never eat it although I'd like to (the smell kills me). I will get some!

Thanks for all your suggestions. These are great...
