Default Headaches caused by BF hormones (maybe fenugreek)?

I am absolutely sick of these splitting headaches that I've had for over two weeks now, and I don't know what's causing them.
As some of you know I am in the process of relactation, and I've been taking up to 2100mg of fenugreek per day, often less. I've checked my sugar levels, which are normal. I recently switched to a vegan diet, but I am making sure to get all the vitamins and nutrients I need (lots of protein, b12 and calcium).
I drink a lot of water, and I am getting a decent amount of sleep, although it is interrupted at least once (and maybe a few more times by my partner's snoring -lol).
So, I wonder if my increasing supply can really affect my hormones to a point where they'd give me headaches? It's not a full intensity all the time, and sometimes it goes away but there are other times when I just can't stand it and have to take a Tylenol or Aleve.
I don't remember having huge headaches like this when my milk first came in during those early days though. Maybe I should just see a doctor.

Even though you're drinking lots of water, the headaches may be from dehydration.

Cool Re: Headaches caused by BF hormones (maybe fenugreek)?

I'll have to search for the link, I will post it here when I find it. I have headaches after every afternoon feeding, so I looked it up.

First, do you notice it more after a feeding? Do you notice it more at a certain time of day?

The article stated that some women's reaction to producing prolactin or oxytocin (?) is a headache after feeding. If it is really bad, you need to speak with your doctor, but if it's mild usually, you can just take otc headache medicine. You should rotate what meds you take for headache. My routine is tylenol, then ibuprofin, then aleve.

Off to find that article, I'll be back!

^^That could be it. Thanks for the links. I don't really think it happens at a specific time of the day, but I do pump an awful lot so it's hard to say when a headache begins and ends. I get them when I first wake up sometimes.

I had oxytocin headaches for the first three weeks or so...dunno, though. Maybe talk to your doctor about it.

Have you seen this? It says fenugreek can trigger migraines. http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milks...ml#sideeffects

Oh wow, so it could be either. I would cut out the fenugreek for a little while and see if that helps. But you're trying to get your supply up aren't you? Maybe oatmeal for that?

    Good Luck!

This is maybe a little late, but I thought I'd give my two cents...

I started getting headaches when dd was about 5 months. I bf and pump when at work. They kept happening so I went to the doctor. He said that the headaches are due to bf - namely the prolactin. He said that it enlarges the pituitary gland (he called it a prolactinoma), which causes the headaches.

I take Tramadol for the pain, which works most of the time and is as safe as Tylenol for bfing. The trick for me is to pay attention to the early signs of the headaches (sensitivity to light, slight pressure) and take the meds then. The longer I wait to take them, the less effective they seem to be at tackling the headache.

    Hope that helps!
