    Question Is it Ok?

    To mix breastmilk thats pumped at different times during the day?? I am have a procedure done on the 21st and i have to start pumpin a few times a day to get a stash up for my baby becuz im not goin to be able to bf for 24hrs becuz of having anesthisa(sp?) so im wondering if i pump a few times during the day will it be ok to put the new breastmilk with the already pumped milk after it cools? ANd then freeze it til next week?? I really dont want to have to use formula at all for that 24 hrs but i dont know what else to do.. Any advice would be much appericated!

    depending on what you are having done and the kind of drugs they will be giving you you might be able to feed the baby. Its worth finding out what kinds of drugs they are going to be giving. And talking to your doctor about being able to still nurse

    Thanks! Im not sure what drugs but i do plan to ask! I meant to the other day and it skipped my mind, i was more worried anout who was gunna watch my kids..lol... From what the doctor said the other day hes goin to give me a numbing medication that will put me to sleep( i have to have an IV).... Hes takin out my iud and replacing it with another one as its slid down.....

    the breastfeeding answer books says that drugs used for general anestheisa do not remain in mothers milk and that the mother can nurse the baby as soon as she is alert enough to handle the baby.
    it says to ask the doctor how he thinks you will feal after the surgury...
    I've never heard of being put to sleep with an iud?
    Maybe some other mom will chime in..
    Moms breastfeed after c-sections all the time and that is safe.
    It would be less stressfull on you then the bottles, trying to pump ect...

    i kno 4 a fact its a numbin med... he said it may make me go to sleep! i had 2 c-section and bf after both so i was thinkin the same thing! i may call monday and ask to have the doc call me back! just to make sure!
