Default Biting, pulling, clamping, you name it!

My LO has been doing so well at BFing until a few days ago. Now she is slipping off her latch several times during a feed, clamping down where it's almost like a bite (of course, no teeth yet as she is only 10 weeks old), and pulling hard at the nipple and trying to stretch it out as far as she can. She basically turns her head toward me with my nipple still in her mouth. She does this slightly less while nursing lying down, but still... I try to keep the pressure on her upper back to prevent her from pulling but she really fights it. The bites are quick - she just seems to pull her tongue back, bite down, and then start nursing again.

She has been learning new things lately... her fingers (and sometimes her whole fist) are in her mouth a lot of the time and she is much more vocal. No sign of a cold, but her sleep habits have been kind of out of whack (i.e. sleeping all night one day, then not falling asleep until 6 a.m. the next). Poops and wets are normal, and she still eats 7-8x/day. She gets a bottle two or three times a week and a pacifier for 1 or 2 of her naps/day.

Any thoughts? Could it just be her getting distracted? It's too early for teething, right?

It does kinda sound like teething. Both of my LOs got teeth around 3/12 months which I know is very early but supposedly their daddy got teeth early too.

I have the same problems and my lo also is 10 weeks! I have been told babies do this when the milk supply is low and they are trying to rev up your supply. my lo also puts almost her whole fist in the mouth and is drooling like crazy. her sleeping habits have changed as well. I read too that they are growing through a growth spurt and therefore can be extremly exhausted one minute and alert the next. If anyone has thoughts on this I too would be interested to know. Just wanted to let you know though that my lo is experiencing the same things!

I had thought about the milk supply thing, but mine has always been an issue of oversupply and OALD - at least it was for a while. But then I heard that a lot of times your supply seems to even out close to three months, which could be happening and she could be getting annoyed that it's not milk mania anymore.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with DD was 4 months. Lactation consultant said there was nothing to do, she would "grow out of it." And, she did. She stopped at about 5 months or so. Before that, I tried many things to stop her and nothing worked. Not particularly, helpful, I know, but you are most definitely not alone on this one!

When my lo was that little he didn't clamp down on me but he slipped of a lot bc there was so much milk. I always kept a little towel under his head or chin and when he would slip off I would quickly dry my nipple and latch him on again. That helped keep him on and minimize all the slipping. Maybe she's clamping on to keep from slipping off?

My LO does this on and off again. What helps him (hopefully it will work for yours??) ... I will unlatch him gently and switch breasts. The interruption and change seems to work. Maybe because of the distraction he "forgot" that he was "playing" around on the one breast?? Not sure, but it's been working... good luck!!
