    Default Rice cereal?

We had a well baby checkup yesterday (we are so not on track--supposed to be 4 months, but since no vax, I guess it doesn't make a bit of difference) and as W has had diarrhea for months, the doctor recommended intro'ing rice cereal, even though we discussed BLS. She wants me to make it thick and put it in front of him and let him eat it. She said it will help him have thicker stools. I offered to try bananas instead, and she said she is concerned with bananas because "rice is the absolute easiest thing to digest." I really didn't want to start solids for a LONG time...and it seems contrary to me to intro food when he already has digestive issues. Is this just a doctor being...a doctor? Should I follow my mommy instinct?

Your instinct was telling you to follow the possible allergy route, right? Introducing solids right now seems like it would complicate that. His little gut is so protected by JUST having breastmilk as food. I would definately follow your instinct and see if you can see an allergist, or even collaborate via email if thats possible since you are a bit isolated by location.

No, he just has ongoing diarrhea of unknown etiology. She thinks it will solidify his stool some. But I agree with Lyn...that just seems like it could exacerbate his allergies if that is the case. I'm gonna call an allergist.

Follow your instincts, mama! Do you give him probiotics? Garden of Life seems to be good at firming up stools.

    What do you mean?

Its def. diarrhea. It IS getting better, but he was pooping 15 times a day and it was green and mostly water. Now it is WAY less frequent, but still not normal. I am okay with it, now, really, but I would like to find the cause. That's why I am leary of solids (oh, yeah, and he isn't meeting all of the requirements for solids yet ).
