Default Back 2 Work and l lost my milk supply?

It's been 1.5 months since Ive been back to work.
    I work 40 hours a week in a cubicle.
I didn't have much supply to begin with (maybe 5 oz per pump, every few hours)...now I have about 1-2 oz every 4-5 hours. I have had to start giving my baby formula.
I asked my Dr. and she said its perfectly normal for me to lose my supply after going back to work.
Will I get it back?! I reg. take fenugreek as well.
I really only can pump twice a day...my husband tries to bring in baby at lunch but we still have to suppliment that feeding since I'm not producing enough for him.
Is this really the end of my supply? Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks in advnce!
Ive been BFing for 4.5 months now.

I'm so sorry for the stress you are going through!
Tell us more about your pump, what type how old, single or double. How long do you pump for, regular pumping or power pumping? How much does baby bf at home? Total amount of time spent pumping per day?

No it isn't the end of your milk supply.

And I politely disagree with your doctor that going back to work means losing breastmilk supply. It can be challenging and take some effort, but it can be do-able.

I use a Modela Pump and go (or style) I can't remember. I pump for about 10 minutes each time...my left breast is basically dead..Ive never been able to get much out if it..maybe a 1/2 tsp worth.
I pump around 7:30, 11 ish or if baby comes to visit me I hold off to feed him around noon, then around 3-4 ish. I either BF when I get home around 5:30 or pump depending on when he ate last. I BF as needed throughout the night.
I just feel like I'm failing my son by having to give him formula. I still nurse him on top of that just to keep us close but he's not getting anymilk form it.

Make sure you are staying hydrated by drinking lots of water! I definitely notice a drop in my supply on the days that I don't get enough water to drink! Also, have you tried eating oatmeal for breakfast? That helps some mamas a lot!

I know that it's hard, but feeling stressed can cause your supply to decrease, too. The stress of going back to work and then worrying about your supply could be factors Where do you pump at work? Is it private? Can you bring in some soothing music to listen to when you pump? All of those things could help.

Lots of hugs to you! Don't give up! You are doing a great job mama!

OATMEAL! I swear my milk supply with #2 is so much better than with #1 due to oatmeal. I pumped for a year with #1 and sometimes was short a few ounces and had to use frozen milk. With #2, I routinely pump several ounces more than he eats.

Feeling like you need to supplement your supply can be a deflating feeling. I am sorry. The good news is that your baby is primarily breastfed, and will reap the benefits of this for many many years to come! Have you talked over any herbal supplements with your Dr? Here is a short list of dietary suppliments and galactagogues: http://www.bfmed.org/ace-files/proto...uesEnglish.pdf All worthy of some research by you.

So when you pump for ten minutes, you mean only ten minutes total, or ten minutes on ten minutes off a few times?

Sounds like if it's just ten minutes you may only get one let down- which would account for some reduction in milk supply. A fully drained breast receives signals to produce more milk faster.

Do you see a time where you are getting a few streams that hiss with milk, or is it all labor?

Many women have a breast that produces more milk than the other. Have you tried breast compressions? Watch this:http://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastf...roduction.html and browse the whole thing when you have time!

    I 2nd the oatmeal idea!

A few things that help me:
    1) remembering that 2 oz is pretty average for a working/pumping mom
    2) drink 60 oz of water everyday
    3) eat healthy snacks (carrot sticks w/ranch, oranges, etc- actually I have my oatmeal for a snack instead of breakfast)
    4) get enough sleep, although I know this is easier said than done with a baby
    5) pump so a letdown occurs. Do you have one or more when you pump?
    6) don't drink a lot of caffeine
    7) Don't pump when hungry
    8) I actually have an Avent Isis, manual pump that works better for me than any electric I've used. This isn't the case for everyone, but I know some women do better with electrics and some with manuals.

I'm sure I will think of a few more things in a minute, but ALL of these effect my supply in one way or another *everyday*.

This is completely doable for you!

I found it helpful to pump until my milk stopped flowing - rather than watching the clock. And for me - being able to double pump hands-free was a huge help.

When to stop. Continue pumping until the milk is no longer flowing. If you're pumping one breast at a time, switch to the other side and pump until the milk stops flowing on that side. Then pump each breast again. If you're double-pumping, you might want to pump a minute or two longer after the milk flow stops to see if you can trigger another let-down and get more milk.

One more thing- Continue to pump for about 1 minute after seeing the last drop.
