Default I nursed so hard that milk came out my nose!

Anybody else have this experience? My 3 month old is becoming an OALD veteran. He's learned to handle the flow pretty well, much less choking and sputtering. We had a hard time nursing lying down for a while--somehow it made the let-down harder to handle for him. Then one day he just got it. No more coughing, nursed in bed. I'm getting much more sleep. I didn't ask why it happened, I just closed my eyes and went to sleep.

The other day, I figured out how he does it. The extra milk is dripping out of his nose!!! The first time I saw it, it scared the poo out of me. Now I think of it as his "relief valve."

    Anybody heard of this before?

Yup, no harm done. Within the range of normal.

DD did the same thing & I was scared too.....she also seems to be congested sometimes...we're having a rough time with OALD and nothing seems to help. DD is 8 weeks now.

LOL I remember this with my first. I thought it was dribbling out the side, but nope! Out the nose. Good for cleaning those sinuses
Ps. If you have ever read "Hathor the Cow Goddess" she has a comic with her baby sleeping, milk dripping out of his nose

My lactation consultant said the bm is great for the body - inside and out, that I can squirt some on an irritated chin, and if he coughs and it goes down the wrong pipe, that its totally harmless. So I think some through the nose is no problem!

my LO just had that happen on saturday. i was BF him and all of us sudden his nose is dripping. I didn't know what it was from, but just kept feeding him. when we were finished i suctioned his nose. he's had a cold and i read that instead of saline solution you could put BM in their nose so I figured he was ok.

My 10 day old did this as well, and I freaked out convinced that he would drown---but he was still sucking away like "no big deal". So, I stopped laying down nursing, but now that I know this was not uncommon, I do feel a little better going back to lying down nursing and dosing off. He also nursed longer that way with helps with oversupply.

My milk came in on day 2 and we have been up to our eyeballs (or nostrils) in milk since then.
