Default how do you know if your milk supply is low?

    Hi,
I"m using a nipple shield and engorged at this time. I was told the nipple shield MAY lower milk production, so I should pump as well....but I'm trying not to pump until the engorgement subsides. The baby has adequate wet/dirty diapers daily and seems to be getting enough milk. Does this mean my supply is fine? Or is there other ways to tell?
    thanks!!

I appreicate all your advice and support!

Hi there! The most effective way to be sure that your supply is adequate is to monitor baby's output. As long as baby is having enough wet/dirty diapers each day and is gaining well then you're doing just fine!

And if the engorgement is very painful, you may want to pump just a little on each side to relieve the pressure. (Not enough to make your body think it's a full feeding)

thank you both so much for your replies! He's having plenty of wet diapers so I guess he's doing okay. He has a wieght check on Wed, so we'll wait and see how that goes. Thanks again.
