    Default Soapy Smell

    Hi everyone,

I thawed out milk Saturday morning for the babysitter to use that afternoon. She never used it so I was going to give it to my daughter for dinner on Sunday night. I of course smelled it first and it was soapy so I dumped it.

I already know that thawed EBM that smells soapy is due to excessive Lipase, but I'm wondering if the milk can become soapy smelling 24 hours after it's been thawed, but not due to excessive lipase?

    Thanks!

My friend gave me some of her baby's bottles to use with dd. She had washed them thoroughly so I just expressed right into it. DH was going to give it to DD a few hours later, but it smelled really strongly of Ivory. This may sound a little gross, but to be sure, I tasted a tiny bit to make sure and it really tasted like soap! DH tried a little to confirm and we agreed it was the dish soap left on the bottle. Since then I make sure the bottle's very very well rinsed and doesn't smell like soap.

My milk was in a milk storage bag and had been frozen for about 1.5 months.
