What I would do is give two to three tablespoons of prune juice by bottle, mixed with either water or apple juice after each nursing session until I got the desired consistency of poop. Your son may need a day or two of doing this. I'd start with three tbs. per feeding for your son-it sounds like he needs some intervention. After you get the desired results, he may require a daily regimin of prune juice or whatever does the trick to keep him regular.
I mixed the prune juice with his cereal. He won't drink it alone. I also gave him the Earth's Best Prune Oatmeal. He would eat the entire jar.

If you still want to do solids right now while you're solving the current issue, you can. Just feed it to him after nursing.
The problem is that my DH was told by our ped. that he needs more solids to help push his stool along. He says the bm has too many nutrients so there isn't anything to help pass the solids. My DH is against taking him off of solids. He doesn't eat very much as it is. Half a jar in the morning and maybe a whole jar in the evening. I also give him finger foods to play with, but very little end up in his tummy.

Before solids, my son would only poop once every week. BM is so easily digested, there's little waste. It's the perfect food.

Number Three is correct that it's the consistency of the poop, not the frequency, that makes a baby constipated.

We had to play around with the prune juice to get my son to drink it. Finally, we found the mixture he enjoys. Come to find out, he doesn't like juice full-strength; he likes it a bit watered-down and/or mixed with apple juice. We're going to try pear juice next. He also likes to gnaw on the bottle for a long time before drinking. It takes about an hour for the whole ordeal. He's about a week and a half younger than your son and is teething like crazy! It's all part of the fun though, right?!

I don't think the solids will move things along, IMO. Rather it sounds like what has gotten things to this point. So backing off for a bit can't hurt and might help. My little darling doesn't eat much solid food either, between two and four tablespoons in the morning and evening. When he recently had a bad cold, he wasn't interested in eating much solids, which worried me a bit. Rest assured, your baby will get the nourishment he needs from bm. Now that he's better, he enjoys his solids again and he is no worse off than before.

What other types of foods has he tried?

I agree my LO hardly ever have bm's but he also isn't in any pain and isn't irritable as one would be when constipated. But when he does have a poopie diaper it's very soft. But in any case to you and your LO--I hope he get better soon.

BM is a natural laxative. The advice to keep him on solids to push the poop along it bogus. He had soft poops when EBF, and now they're hard, right? The only change/variable is the solids. I have totally BTDT and I agree you need to keep him off solids for a time. When you do reintroduce, try to go for mostly oily/fatty foods, more protein, and less carbs/fiber (including too much raw fruit). The olive oil is a good start. You can also do flax oil and coconut oil. Someone here suggested ghee (clarified butter) to me and I'm going to try it with DD. The key is to be consistent (which is my main problem). I have a long story and don't feel like typing it out right now. PM me if you would like me to send it to you. Hope your LO is feeling better soon!

It happened again tonight. All he had to eat today was half of a jar of Earth's Best Pear Apple Barley. Last night he had a small jar of carrots with olive oil and a large jar of pears. Tonight I decided to skip dinner completely. We are seeing another specialist tomorrow. I hope someone can help us. My poor baby is so miserable.
