Default Is this enough nursing in a 24 hr period of time?

    reposting here:

I recently started keeping track of eating and sleeping for my 5 1/2 month old baby. He is only bfing an average of 40 minutes in an entire day. He nurses abt 6 or 7 times for 4-8 minutes on one side each time. He's growing fine. (He's a twenty pounder!) and wet diapers seem fine, but, whew, that's not a lot, is it?!

    Thanks for your thoughts.

That's fine. They get very efficient around that age.

It'a always disconcerting to think your LO is eating that fast. But, they can. My little guy does drive by nursings and always has. When he was just a few days old, I took him to the Lactation Consultant because he would only nurse for about 5 minutes on each side, so I was sure he wasn't getting enough. But, they did the weigh before and after thing and he had had more than 3 ounces in a total of 8 minutes! So, as long as he's growing fine and he has enough wet diapers he's just one of those fast nursers. My guy is over 22 lbs now and growing great and your "LO" sounds the same.
