Default When to start meats & grains?

My ds is a little over 7 months, and he has solids 2-3 times per day. So far its bananas, squash, yams, avocado, peas, prunes, and carrots. When should I add more than just veggies & fruits? I've read mixed things. A baby cook book I have, Superfoods, says to start now but it seems a little early. TIA!

We started organic O's cereal (oats) when Thomas was around 9 months old, and he started toast around the same time and didnt' have any trouble (it's whole wheat toast), but we have no history of allergies of any kind in either family.

He had browned ground beef around the same time (we left a few days between the new things; I think it sounds like we bombarded the poor little guy with new stuff all at once, but we didn't). He didn't seem to care for the texture of it. He had turkey for the first time at Thanksgiving, when he was 8 months old, and loved it (still does). He's since had chicken too, and loves that as well.

I think meat should come first and grains should come last.
