    Default Mammogram while nursing

I wasn't sure where to post this, so if the moderator thinks it will get more traffic somewhere else, feel free to move it.
My lo is 4 mos, and yesterday my dr. found a lump in my left breast. I pump twice a day at work, and felt something there, but just chalked it up to the way that milk duct felt. He's sending me for a diagnostic mamogram. Anyone else had one while nursing? Will it effect my milk? I imagine it will help if I nurse and/or pump just before hand. I'm ashamed to say that this is my first one, and I'm almost 42. Nursing or not, I have huge breasts, and I'm imagining this is going to be very uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

I don't really have any advice for you.. but I wanted to get a mamogram because there is alot of breast Cancer in my family and my OB said that I needed to wait till I was finished nursing and then probab 6 months after that otherwise they can't really see anything..... I don't think it will affect your milk any.... and I would think it would be helpful to pump before hand but I would call and ask the radiologist doing the exam.. they should give you some instructions!!

I agree with PP, ask the radiologist. Don't feel ashamed that you haven't had a mammogram yet. I need one, my mother had breast cancer, but I haven't done it either...right now I am waiting to finish nursing.

Hope they don't find anything, and that you don't worry too much.

    from that link:

Finding a radiologist experienced in reading mammograms of lactating breasts would produce more reliable results

Is it going to be an ultra sound? Thoose can be easier for the doctor to read.. Maybe you can talk your doctor into geting on of them instead of the mammogarm test.

A leader could get you more info!
