Default What to do when baby sleeps through the night

My baby is almost 11 weeks old and during the last week he's only been waking up to eat once a night. His last feeding has been at 8:00pm and he goes down at about 9:30 or 10:00. Yesterday, he didn't get up until 5:15am to eat, went back to sleep and then woke up at 9:00 and ate. Usually, he eats 7 times a day but if this pattern keeps up it could go down to 5 times. Shouldn't he be eating 6 - 8 times still? Should I wake him up to eat? Sometime he just makes these 'Eh, Eh' sounds at night and doesn't really cry or he goes back to sleep but I feed him anyway. Should I wait until he cries or should I get him when he's just fussing like this? Its funny... I long for the day he sleeps through the night but when he does I worry that he's not eating enough.. go figure!

I believe 8 times per day is optimal.

Coming from a mama who has slept through the night 4 or maybe 5 times in the last 2 years...LET THE BABY SLEEP.

I got exactly the same experience. my bb is 10 wks plus now. When he make the "eh eh" sound, i just wake him & feed him. Wondering whether should just leave him alone until he cry louder? Sometime if i ignore him, he can sleep for extra 1-2hrs. So, i m not sure he's hungry or not.

You should let the baby sleep. They are good about telling you if they need to eat. If the baby is gaining weight and having enough wet diapers, there is not a problem. My first baby started sleeping thru the night at 6 weeks and I didn't wake her up. She is now a healthy 3 year old! If he is just making the "eh eh" sound, then I wouldn't get him up to feed him. He's probably just making noise while he sleeps or maybe he woke up a little bit and was mad about it. If he's waking up because he needs something, he'll let you know! Congrats on the sleep!

Thanks! I think i'l try to let him sleep if he just make "eh eh" sound. Hopefully he can sleep through the nite coz i m real tired of waking up 2-3hourly to nurse him.

How much does he weigh? Thomas did the same thing, and the doctor (and lots of mamas!) said LET HIM SLEEP. We did, and he definitely lets us know if he needs us lol. Have a nice long soak in the tub and enjoy your full night's sleep!

Thanks! I feel much better! I was concerned because everyone kept telling me that 8pm - 5am is a long time between feeding for an 11 week old. At 9 weeks he weighed 13 lb 2 oz.
