    Default avocado?

I hear lots of you ladies use avocado as a first food. How do I prepare it? DH wants to do it as a puree, so would I add water? Or just mush it up? How long does it last once cut open? Thanks!!

I mash it with a fork. I took an old fork and bent it, its now my "masher fork". I am such a dork.

I usually give D 1/4 of a medium-large avo or 1/3 of a small one. I store the rest in a ziploc bag WITH the pit. It gets a little brown, but I cut the brown part off and its usually just the part that was exposed to air.

We usually offer avo every 1-2 days.

I save mine the same way.

I offer it mashed, with or without a little breast milk in it (and he also likes it with a little banana sometimes), or just cut into pieces. He chows down either way.

Thats wonderful that your husband is taking such an active role!

Some other first foods we offered where steamed sweet potato (easy to get this time of year), banana, and mango!

I too am so glad he's being such an active participant with Gabe . . . he wasn't around when Jacob and Emily were babies (Iraq deployment), so it's SO fun to have him here w/ Gabe!!

I did it as a puree with breastmilk, (now he eats chunks) and like Lyn, we store it with the pit, and cut the brown off each time. LO snacks on them almost daily.

That's so funny, my DH was the same way about the purees. What's with that!?? I would just mash it with a fork but you could probably put some BM with it if you wanted to. Make sure it's really ripe too - keep it out of the fridge till it's soft.
