    Default Wheat Germ

    Hi,

I'm curious about wheat germ for my 10 month old. He's had wheat already so I know he's not allergic. I plan to mix it into his oatmeal and applesauce breakfast. How much? Is daily ok?

    Thanks!

I don't know the answer--I was hoping someone would post it! I'd like to add it to my son's cereal too but not sure if that's ok (he's 8 months old).

We waited until after DS turned one to introduce wheat. Just my personal preference.

I sprinkle some onto DS yogurt & then mix it in. I don't measure - but it's probably about a teaspoon.

If you're not sure if your LO will like wheat germ - then perhaps try adding just a little sprinkle and then gradually increase the amount.

I found some good suggestions about wheat germ in the Super Baby Food book.
I add it to yogurt, cereal, pretty much anything...

I use about 1-2 tsp at a time.

I also make balls out of sweet potatoes and roll them in wheat germ. This freezes well too.

Oh - and I also add several tablespoons of wheat germ to pretty much any homemade baking that I do - things like pancakes or muffins. If needed I increase the liquids in the recipe a little to get the correct consistency of the batter.

Thanks for the responces. I've started 1/8 tsp. with breakfast and sometimes cover banana chunks so they aren't so slippery. He seems to like it (and everything) so far.
