I've found that if I am pumping every 2 hours that my volume per hour output is actually higher than 3-5 hours apart (but it is tiring!). It probably increases how much your breasts are expecting to make as well. Remember to snack through the day, on good nutritionally balanced food, and keep your fluid intake up and your caffeine intake down.

Good luck, and congratulations for having such a supportive boss.

I've NEVER been able to pump this amount. I have a Medela Symphony hospital grade pump. I use the pump once in the morning, 4 times at work and twice in the evening after baby goes to sleep. With each pumping session I get between 2-3 oz. total. There was only one occasion in a 6 month span that I got 5 oz from one breast alone.

I wonder if I am doing something wrong. Also where can I find fenugeek to increase my supply? Every place I have gone to does not have it.

You are not doing anything wrong. You are normal. The other ladies are the exception.

I would like some advice on how all of you mothers are able to produce so much milk. I started going back to work last week; i work 3-12 hour shifts in a busy ER and i am usually able to pump only 3 times in that period. I am taking Fenugreek and when i home with my lo she is on the breast. She is 12 weeks and healthy, but she is catching up with my milk storage and now i am only staying about 6 oz. ahead of her. I am only getting anywhere from 12-15 oz in 3 pumpings. Please give my some advice...i do not want to have to use formula as supplement and would love to give some milk to help other mothers. Thanks!

For the first 2 months, I pumped A LOT. My son was also mostly bottle fed because of latch problems - we worked on latch before, during and after the bottle feeds. I pumped every 2 hours and got 3-4 (sometimes 5) oz. from each breast! It was a shame there are no milk banks here because I literally had a freezer full of frozen milk. I had to dump a lot of it.

By his 10th week, my son was BFing pretty well so the pumping slowed a little. And then over my summer vacation, the pumping was almost nonexistent. I had to struggle to bring my supply back up for my return to work in September. I now pump about 100 mL (3 1/2 oz) between both breasts at a pumping session. Sometimes more.

Just started re-lac process. I am getting an ounce or so after a week or so of exclusively pumping. After the amount increases I will try to get him to re-latch!

    Wow!!!!!

I thought I had a lot of milk. At what age was your baby when ya'll were able to pump so much?????????????

I have read some articles on here and my son shows all the signs that I produce too much milk... choking, fussy, coughing, etc. He displays every sign. But, when I feed him on both breast then pump, after he is done, I can only get 1 ounce, even in the am. Now if he only eats on one side I can get 3-4 ounces in about 7 minutes.

He is only 9 weeks. How much should I be getting when I pump? Should I pump an hour after he is done? Also how often should he be eating? Right now he eats every 21/2 hrs. I have a small supply of milk saved, and I don't return to work for 4 more weeks.

    Thanks

Wow, I am lucky to pump 1oz from both breasts. I think I am going to buy a new pump.
