Red face dumb question about sweet potato

how do you cook a sweet potato to give to your LO? simply boil it in water like you would do with a normal potato?
sorry to seem dumb but... I have never done it, sweet potatoes are not "considered" here in europe! I am boiling it whole, with skin and everything, to preserve the nutrients like I would do with the potato...

I boiled it the first time, but the rest of the times I just baked it in the oven. I'm interested in the best way to do this cause thats what I make more of for Hunter's food.

I'm in the UK and we love sweet potato.

Mine and DS's favourite is cut them into wedges, and roast in a little oil in a hot oven until soft and browning on the outside - about 45 minutes.

sorry, I know sweet potatoes are common in the UK too... but in southern europe you really have to go to specialised shops to find them.

thanks for the cooking tip, I will try it tomorrow!

I prefer to bake them in the oven, I think this brings out their natural sweetness better than boiling. I poke holes in them, and bake them whole. It takes a good hour or so, but they are delish! I either slice them up and serve with a little butter (my LO is older) or I mash them and mix in russet potatos too. They freeze quite well too, so you can freeze up the extra chunks and just get the out as needed for lunches, and quick dinners.

I bake them in the oven too, although I know you can also microwave them. The roasted ones sound good--we might have that tonight!

We steam our sweet potatos - peel and cube them and put them in a fan steamer. It only takes about 5 minutes
