    Default Beginner finger foods?

Any suggestions on what are some good finger foods to start with. My son is 8 months old and need some good suggestions. I have tried a few things like bananas but they are too hard for him to pick up (too slimy). Any ideas for things that he can start with that he can also begin to pick up?

Bite sized pieces of ripe avacado
Chunks of soft-cooked (baked or steamed) sweet potato or yam
    Cooked rice (preferably brown)
    Puffed rice cereal
    Squashed blueberries
    Squashed cooked peas
Cooked or canned beans or lentils (drain well if canned and rince to remove salt. Cut or break into smaller pieces to avoid choking hazzards)
    Grated cooked turkey or chicken
    Well cooked ground beef crumbles
    Grapes sliced in quarters
    Cheerio-type cereals
Apple or pear grated on a cheese grater

    Have you introduced wheat?

Other ideas in addition to the PP:

natural hard cheese (cheddar, colby, mozzarella, etc.) grated or cut into pea-size cubes

chex cereals (dissolve quick on the tongue)
bits of mini-bagels (pepperidge farm makes a good whole-wheat variety)
the veggies in a bag of frozen mixed veggies are great b/c they're usually the right size for finger feeding. sometimes I have to cut the green beans into smaller pieces

peeled, sliced apple (galas or fujis are good)
    apricots (grated or diced)

    Well, if you're giving wheat...

    Cooked pasta shapes
    Pieces of pancake or waffle
    Crackers
Bread, pita, or tortilla pieces spread with mashed avacado or other mashed fruit/veggie
