You are supposed to use bm within 24 hours of thawing it. I would probably not leave it at room temp for long.

so it needs to be used within 24 hours of putting it in the fridge? or can you assume it takes 12 hours to thaw, and then it's good for 24 hours?

sorry to be so nitpicky, i want to make sure i am using good milk. thanks!

I would consider the 24 hour period begins when you place the bottle into the fridge. Make sure the ones you have frozen are used within 3 months! I actually have a calendar at home that I mark showing me how many I have stored in the freezer that need to be used by a certain date. That way, I don't end up going past the 3 month mark (it would probably be fine, but I like to follow the guidelines to be on the safe side!)

You can freeze milk longer than 3 months depending on the type of freezer.

This is a good guide for freezing times:
    http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage.html

    It also states:
Previously frozen milk may be kept in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours after it has finished thawing. Do not refreeze.
These are guidelines but some things you find out by trial and error. Good luck!
