Default benadryl - ok to take

I've developed a very itchy rash, just about everywhere on my body. Is benadryl ok to take while bf?

I would say that it is safe, I was able to take benadryl while pregnant due to a rash that I developed in my 3rd trimester. Here's a link about it. HTH, take care of yourself!

Also, you should probably contact your Dr. if it dosen't get better or gets worse just to be safe.

I believe it is ok, but be careful. Antihistimines can dry you up / reduce your supply if I recall correctly. I know that cough medications can.

Like pp said, it may cause a temporary dip in your supply.

I took it while bf but only when I absolutely needed to avoid affecting supply. The key also is trying to figure out what is causing the rash if you have to take it more than a couple times. Turned out I was allergic to the soap in the hospital. UGH!

My doctor said it was fine to take. Like pp said I would just keep on eye on your supply.

Awesome links. Thanks very much. I am not so concerned about using my pre-pregnancy supply of Loratadine now. ^_^

Benadryl is listed as an L2 in Dr. Hale's "Medications and Mother's Milk." The category L2 means a safer choice (his scale goes from L1 (safest) to L5 (contraindicated). Hope you are feeling better soon!
