Default Is there a trick to getting bananas ripe?

I bought some at the store almost 4 days ago and all they had displayed were unripe ones and I thought they would be ripe by now but they're still as green as can be

My dh was saying that there was a way to get them ripe but he didn't know

    Anyone?

Put them in a paper bag with some other fruit - like an apple.

The fruit naturally release a gas (ethylene) that helps trigger the ripening process.

Putting them in a bag helps to naturally concentrate the gas & they'll ripen faster.

Some banans never get ripe. They stay hard and get a bit gray in color.

The brown bag trick really does work!

I sure hope that dosen't happen to mine I put them in a bag this morning with an apple, I had to use a plastic bag because we didn't have a paper bag, hopefully that'll work too

my father puts the fruits in a pot with a lid - maybe a plastic bag is not the best because it's air-tight... hth

you can also just peel them and zap them in the microwave to make them soft enough to mash.

Plastic bag will cause them to rot, so the best way is paper bag (paper bag works for peaches, pears, plums.. too) Sometimes even the outside is green, the inside of the banana can be ripe if it has been waiting for a while (I don't know why that happens.)
