Default need more help with constipation/ frequency

I have posted on the help with breastfeeding discussion but still need further help... anyone that knows anything about these things please write me back I seriously am at a loss. My eight month old son stopped pooping about two months ago. I have pulled him off all solid food and am just breast feeding. He is healthy and still thriving but not going to the bathroom. I have tried many many \"natural" remedies and all the p's have not worked, massage... do it every day, baths... tons... I have gone to a GI specialist and he was negative for hirschprungs.... but he had no other idea what could be wrong. He put him on Miralax and I took him off because I have never seen him in so much pain... even when he would go 8 days without a BM. I know it is normal for breastfed babies to go 7 days etc... but with David it is not normal because poo is in his rectum it is just NOT coming out. He pushes constantly and is in pain. I have resulted to natural remedies again and want to know if anyone has any experience with aloe vera as a laxitive or a fiber supplement??????? In the mean time I am doing fleet suppository's every other day.... don't know what else to do. I do nto feel like it is time to introduce solids again because he does not have any teeth and my mid wife told me they do not have the proper enzymes until they have atleast one tooth! PLEASE HELP!

    THANK YOU
    Sarah

Can you tell us more about what it looks like when he has a natural movement after 7 days?
If he is off the solids Its normal to go even longer than a week. Ten or so days i have heard.

Thanks for the replies. Um he has nto had a "normal" bowel movement in a long while... I have just been giving him suppositories for the last two months.... but when they come out they are normal.... just enormous. They are yellow and have the milk curdles like they should... soft and mushy... sometimes a bit pastey, but that is when it is only breast milk of course. I did another one last night and it was mucousy and incredibly airy... can't think of a better word almost like cabonation. I know that breastfed babies "can" go a long time, but like I said it is not like he is just fine the whole nine days plus... he is throwing up, he can't sleep, he feels terrible after about day four. He pushes constantly as well. He has poo in his bowel I know that, He just can not get out for some reason. I have read everything there is to read on the net, and he does not meet the guidlines for text book "constipation" becasue it is soft when it comes out. I am starting to think it is a muscle control problem or a lack in my diet of some sort. What kind of fiber did you give your daughter? I bought a supplement this week, it has oat germ and marshmallow root as well as stevia as a sweetner. Again any advice, help, thoughts would be so much appreciated!

So sorry that your baby is in pain.

"Mucousy" sounds like an allergy to me. Have you tried eliminating dairy from your diet? Nuts and shellfish could be culprits too. Maybe try the allergy forum. The mothers there are very experienced.

But I have read some other post by a mother whose baby had mucousy and foamy stools, and it was because of bacteria infection from a nasal congestion. She had a gastroenterologist to look at her baby, the doc put baby on amoxcillin and it cleared up.

Hope your baby is better soon.

Have you considered chiropractic care? I have a friend who did this with her toddler and had great success. Sometimes their spines are slightly mis-aligned and it can really affect their digestive system. Ask some moms in your area for chiros who do work on babies... it's very safe and often very effective. Good luck!

Thanks so much ladies, those two things make sense to me and actually I am going to see a lady hopefully this week who does all kinds of homeopathic healing and I think she is also a chiropractor... so we will see how that goes and I will call my ped and ask about the mucous. I will also visit the allergy page thanks again for that tip,
    Sarah
