    Default pain during period

This is not really about BFing, but I'm posting here because we are all at least a year beyond the birth. Does anyone else get pain with their menstrual period? I don't mean cramps, I mean I feel bruised and sore from around the vaginal opening to the outer labia, like I did for about 6 wks after giving birth. Is this normal? This is only my third period since my son was born, but they have been regular (every 30 days). I never had this before I had children and I just wondered if this is common or something I should see my ob-gyn about. Yes, I know, I know, I should see him anyway. I've been putting it off because I hate lying on that table with my legs spread... And while I have your attention, and while we're on the subject of pain down there, can I ask how long you had pain during intercourse after giving birth?

Probably not the same, but I still get pain at what I assume is the incision site on my uterus when I have my period. You could always call your doc and ask if it's normal. They may put your mind at ease without having to "spread 'em".

I haven't gotten my period back yet so don't know about that but I still occasionaly have pain with sex; still seems "tender" at the site where I had stitches....probably psychological as much as physical because I probably don't relax as I anticipate pain!

Hi purplemonkey -I have the same problem. It almost feels swollen or something. Sex is still painful and all that not-so-good stuff. I didn't really suspect an infection because there was no itching or discharge from what I could tell but I went to the OB/GYN and she said it's a yeast infection. I was pretty surprised. Maybe you have one too? Just a suggestion. I just started the oral nystatin a few days ago so I haven't really been able to see if it's helped with the pain yet....good luck!

I have the same issue that you do- pain around that area, especially when I had my period. That whole area is tender. Its not fun. I went to see my doctor, and a specialist, and they couldn't figure it out. I hope that you are able to get a better diagnosis though! I haven't pursued it further yet.

Discovered something - it only hurts there when I'm wearing a tampon. Are you supposed to avoid them for a while after birth? It's been 14 months...! Thanks for the advice, I know I really ought to get a check up...
