    Default supplementing on weekdays only?

I posted a related question in the working and breastfeeding area, but I was wondering if anyone is in the same position. For the past month or so, I've been having trouble pumping enough while I'm at work and have been sending ds to daycare with 5 oz of formula in addition to (usually) 10 oz of bm. However, I don't feed him any formula on the weekends, I just nurse him on his regular 'schedule'. Shouldn't my supply have decreased since I'm supplementing during the weekdays? He doesn't seem extra hungry or anything on the weekends, and he seems to consume a normal amount at daycare (ie I don't think they're overfeeding him or anything.) Does that make any sense? Its so frustrating having enough on the weekends but not on weekdays.

How old is your LO? My DD is 15 months and while she's well into solids (at her own pace and still behind some LOs) and has rice milk during the weekdays I have not had a problem with supply on weekends or on the rare days that I'm off during the week and we exclusively nurse.

Perhaps while pumping at work you can try to relax and visualize your LO's face while pumping? For me, focusing on anything other than where I was helped a lot.

Total 15 ounces of bm/formula sounds plenty to me. When I pumped and DD got ebm it was about that for a day give or take. If you nurse whenever you're together then you should be fine. Pumping is hard work and I'd say if you're getting 10 ounces that's great!

Others will weigh in but I this is just my 2 cents.

Don't forget, you may have enough milk but just can't pump a lot out. Some women have the problem where the supply is graet, but pumping produces not much at all. I think you are doing fine.

Agree with PP, and also, your baby is more effective at getting the milk out than the pump. He's probably getting just as much during the weekend as he does during weekdays, if not more!

We only supplemented for DD during the week, but had enough for the weekends. I attribute it to the fact that she was MUCH more successful at getting milk out than any pump ever could.
