Default Medela swing pump - cleaning question

I just got a new Medela Swing breastpump and I don't understand the cleaning instructions. It says to wash all parts that come into contact with the breast/milk and lists only the breastshield, valve, membrane, bottles, and caps. It says to wipe down the the motor and pump body with a damp (not wet) cloth if necessary. But doesn't the milk run right through the pump body?? That's the part that you connect the breastshield to on one end and the valve on the other. I keep looking at it and I can't see how the milk would not go through there?

Ok, thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's confusing. I just wrote an email to the customer service department at Medela. I just spent $150 on the thing - I'd like to be able to sterilize it if necessary, kwim?

I put the shield, the bottle, the valve, and the pump body? all in hot water on the stove. I wash it with hot soapy water, let it run thru the parts, and then every other day or so I put it in boiling water for about 30 seconds or so. I only pump once a day...HTH.

I have a Swing pump. I am a little concerned about the cleaning instructions. I
see that the pump body is only supposed to be wipe with a damp towel. I am
noticing build up in the pump even when I do this. Is there a reason it can't be
    boiled for cleaning?

    there reply,

Thank you for contacting Medela. We're sorry for any confusions with the
instruction book. We do suggest to sanitize the piece parts that have direct
contact with the breastmilk, which should includes the connector. You may boil
the parts on top of the stove for 10 minutes.

Please contact us at 1-800-435-8316 if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,
    Medela Customer Service
