My milk came in pretty fast, maybe day 2? I knew because I could hear a very wet suck-swallow every time she nursed. I didn't really get engorged until a couple days later.

My first day home from the hospital (day 3) I was leaning over the changing table on the play yard to change DD and she was screaming (you know newborns and diaper changes ) and all of a sudden my shirt started getting all wet. This was in front of DH, MIL, & FIL they were laughing at me and so I started to laugh and then peed all over myself (should've done my Kegals). Childbirth really makes your body do some funky things. But it's SO worth it. I would do it a million times over if I had to for DD.

Personally, I never experienced engorgement. I did, however, know when my milk "came in" because of the change in my baby's diapers.

Aside from engorgement, here's some other ways to know that your milk is increasing:

Im rofl so hard it hurts!!!
I read somewhere that not everyone gets engorged... so the best way to tell is by the baby's swallowing.... when your milk does come in, lo will be gulping... and there will be a milk overflow.... lOl

For me it was pretty sudden. I was very engorged and they hurt because of it for like a week straight!

I didn't get engorged at all, my breast started to feel heavier though. I knew for sure my milk was in when I kept sniffing my shirt thinking I has spilled milk all over myself at breakfast. I changed my shirt and still couldn't figure out where I had spilled milk on my clothing. I had a completely 'duh' moment and realized it was my bra and it was MY milk I was smelling, none spilled at all.

I felt it moving down within 48 hours of my C-section. It was a very weird sensation - I could feel increasingly more of my breasts getting hard (moving down towards my nipple) as I checked them every hour.
