Default 5 months old- ready for solids?

This is my third child, and with my last two I waited until they were 6 months to introduce solids. However, this baby seems really interested in food at this point. She is 5 months old today- does everyone wait until the 6 month mark or is it ok to start them sooner if the child seems ready?

My lo is 5 months and Ped gave us instructions to start solids. We tried yesterday. He spits out most of them, but he was not crying or kicking. He seemed fine. He just didn't know how to handle it yet.

We started solids - actually a few weeks ago because he was ready. Slowly of course - some days we do, somedays we dont.

Heck the kid is using a sippy cup to drink already And goodness knows there is no eating or drinking around him anymore. He will grab glasses from your hands to try and drink out of them - and if you give him a spoon and some puree to play with - he will manage to get some into his mouth =p

It all depends on your LO =)
