Default will i lose my milk supply if baby sleeps all night long?

my baby is 2 months old and is sleeping longer at nights, last night was 8.5 hours! will i lose my milk supply if i do not get up and pump during the night? right now i am pumping exclusively.

do others begin to lose their milk supply when their LO's sleep all night long? i would love to sleep through the night with my baby, but i do not want to lose my milk supply. right now i am pumping way more milk than baby eats, but still don't want to lose my supply. thanks for any comments.

Your body will adapt to when and how much milk baby needs. Pumping at night is telling your body to make that milk! Continue nursing on demand during the day (and night, if baby cues for nursing) and your milk supply will respond. Congrats on getting some good sleep! You need that rest Mama.

does the fact that i am pumping exclusively make any difference?

also, is my fertility likely to return sooner if baby starts sleeping through the night and i am not pumping?

I don't really now but I would say no. Does he not nurse on the breast at least part of the time? How often are you pumping in the day? This might get answered better in the pumping forum as the ladies there may have more experience

my lo started sleeping for twelve hours at night at about three months. for a long time i would either wake him up or pump at least once just because i felt twelve hours was a long time to go without emptying my breast. i did not notice a decrease in my overall supply when he started sleeping longer. as far as fertility goes i have heard that once they start sleeping longer you'll probably get your period back but at almost eleven months i still haven't got mine back.

I think your body will still adjust even if you're pumping exclusively- though I could be wrong. I don't see why it wouldn't adjust though

i pump & nurse. your supply w/b fine b/c it will adjust over time to frequency/length you pump. as for the extra milk...freeze it! you'll hit a growth spurt or low volume time & may need it.

our lo started sleeping thru the night at 12 wks. you may feel like you'll bust by am & will probably soak thru your nighty on occassion but you'll be ok.

as for the fertility, you may not get your period but you can def get prego while nursing. be sure to use something when getting frisky (unless you want the irish twins)

I'm jealous of you mama's whose LO's are sleeping so long so early on! Enjoy the rest!!!! I hope #2 does that because DD didn't for several months.

My DD is 3 months old and sleeps through the night as well. She sometimes sleeps for 11 hours straight. When she first started sleeping through the night, I never woke her up to nurse. I was told, never to wake a sleeping baby! Anyhow, I'd wake up in the mornings and my breasts were so full at first. I couldn't nurse both sides because she'd get too much and spit most of it up. I'd nurse one side and pump the other for storage. Once my body got used to not nursing at night, they stopped feeling full in the mornings. Your body will adapt and it shouldn't hurt your supply. It just might take a few days to adjust. Hang in there. HTH!
