I wish the article had contained more information about how they determined those percentages, but it didn't. I'm assuming that in this context energy = calories, and that 448 ml of bm contains 29% of the RDA of calories for an average toddler on an average day.

So, should we still feed cows milk and BF after 1 or is BM only okay?

Man, I hope BM alone is okay, because my daughter won't drink cow's milk. You should see the face she makes when I give it to her in a sippy cup- it's like "Jeez, Momma, why are you giving me this yucky stuff? I'm not drinking it and YOU CAN'T MAKE ME."

I think giving cow's milk in addition to BM can't be bad- you're giving your child extra calcium, extra calories, extra vitamins... But I think the primary reason to introduce it to your baby is so that s/he gets used to the taste. Someday your baby will be weaned, and after that you'll probably want her/him to accept cow's milk as part of her/his diet, right?

What is the alt. to cow's milk? If baby has an intolerance...this is my main reason that i can see myself going beyond a year

I think a 1 year old that BF on demand and that doesn't drink cow's milk will take more than 16oz a day.
