Default When to start finger foods?

Henry is 9.5 months, and he is still on all purees. He has food allergies, so i have to go slow, but I'm wondering if it's time for him to start with finger foods. He only has his two bottom teeth so far as well.

Also, any suggestions for finger foods? I can't give him most packaged things because of his allergies. I was thinking of steaming some little carrot sticks for him, but I'm afraid of him choking.

Once the baby has mastered the pincer grasp, finger foods are perfectly fine. Some babies can start even before then, and pick things up with the full-hand sweep.

Some starter finger foods that worked well for my DD were soft boiled things that came out of soup- boiled shredded chicken, soft noodles (don't know if you'd want to do that one if your LO has allergies), boiled veggies. Little soft chunks work well and can't be choked on. I used to cut things up until they were Cheerio-sized- big enough to pick up, small enough to slide right down.

Put a sheet down on the floor and let the fun begin!

    good early finger foods:

    - carrots (I cut baby carrots into quarters length wise & steam until soft)
    - green beans (steamed)
    - soft fruits (pear, peach, melons, banana) - cut into either small cubes or french-fry shapes
    - sweet potato (microwave or bake until soft, cool, give DS a "blop" on his tray)
    - broccoli (cut into little "trees", steam until soft)

dry cereals - if you can find a brand that works with your DS allergies

My DS liked puffed rice, rice chex, "O" cereal (like cherios but not wheat)

Oh - what about doing finger food versions of foods your DS has already had as purees and you know are safe from an allergy perspective?
