Question Baby food vs. Table food??

HI! My little girl is almost 11 months old. She's still bf & she eats solids too. I've been giving her a 4 oz jar of organic baby food about 3 times a day & also let her try whatever I'm eating - she eats almost everything very happily. Lately she's been getting really fussy with her baby food & only eats some of it instead of all of it or refuses it all together, but she'll eat any table food that I will give her & wants more. She's been teething for what seems like forever, but no teeth yet & she loves to gnaw on everything. She's really good at mashing w/her jaws. I bought a few jars of the 3rd food jars & she WILL NOT eat them at all - I've tried moving back & forth between the 2nd foods & the 3rd foods with no luck. Should I give up the jars & start giving her only table foods & finger foods? If I do this, how much should I give her?

I agree with Andrea! In regards about how much, let the baby be your guide! If she wants more give her more and if she don't then stop, there isn't an amount set for how much, all babies eat different. My baby never liked the baby food, he's same age as yours (will be one on the first) and don't have teeth either but he's really good at eating!

dr sears has a great book it had the serving sizes for toddlers. they had it at my public library

    The Family Nutrition Book $18.95
    Qty
America's parenting experts, Bill and Martha Sears, provide the answers to every question about feeding your family the right foods.

Bill and Martha Sears have written the definitive guide to nutrition for parents and children. The Searses, who have eight children and have spent more than thirty years feeding them, want parents to learn to become their own family's nutritionists. They explain how to make wise food choices for the entire family, from infancy to adulthood, focusing on such important issues as:

    - giving your baby the best nutritional start

    - tips on feeding picky eaters

    - how to tell if your child is eating enough

    - how to decipher a food label

    - how to create a balanced vegetarian diet

    - safe and effective ways to control your weight

    - which fats are good for you and which ones are not

Bill and Martha present a comprehensive health plan they call their L.E.A.N.. program, which stands for lifestyle, exercise, attitude, and nutrition, the four keys to optimal health and well-being. They explain how different body types metabolize food differently and discuss ways to trim fats from children's diets. Finally, they include some nutritious and easy recipes that will enable any parent to plan healthy meals for the whole family.

    Hi Jennifer,

You can absolutely follow your dd's lead and go ahead and feed her what you are eating (within reason of course, for allergy issues and choking hazards).

You can check out our link to starting solids. I know your dd has been eating solids for a while so you are not really starting solids, but as you can see, the article give lots of good ideas for finger foods and doesn't really give much mention to pureed foods. That is because LLL suggests waiting til baby is at least 6 mos. to feed solids and by that point most babies can handle soft bits of foods. Your dd is well past that stage and raring to go, from the way it sounds! Have fun!

I just wanted to thank all of you for your help ! I looked up the websites for making baby food & made the lamb curry (for the whole family too!), my little girl LOVED it!!! The recipes they gave were easy & so far she's doing good eating what I make. I guess it's so long jars (yay!) & hello to what we're eating. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
