    Default Hummus

What about hummus for babies? And does anyone have a good recipe (if for no other reason than I will eat it ).

Emily loved hummus.... but the poops. The horror!! The smell.. augh...

My 12-month old just tried some and liked it OK. It had chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice. (I didn't make it myself, sorry I don't know the exact amounts!)

I wouldn't give that recipe before 12 months, though, due to the lemon. (We prefered to wait until then to introduce citrus.)

I'm pretty sure you can make a simple hummus with just chickpeas and olive oil in the blender. I'd guess that would be OK earlier - maybe 8 months old or so?

Personally, I'd be more worried about the sesame (tahini) than the lemon as an allergen ...

1 can chickpeas (I get no salt and rinse in a colander)
1 clove garlic (either use a garlic press or process garlic 1st)
    3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup tahini (leave out if you're worried about seed allergies)
    1/4 cup olive oil
    1/4 cup water
    pinch cayenne

put everything in a food processer and process until smooth

    that sounds just yummy

I made baba ghanoush last night.

you just put roasted egg plant instead of the chick peas.
1 egg plant roasted in the oven
    1/4 cup lemom juice
    1/4 cup tahini
    2 tablespoons sesame seeds
    2 cloves of garlic
    salt pepper to taste
    1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

I make my hummus w/ chickpeas, ROASTED garlic, and lemon juice. The last time I made it, though, it was quite potent... but then again there were 6 bulbs of garlic in it.

I add various things to the pp's recipe for hummus...roasted red peppers, sundried tomotoes etc...Eden loves it and I feel like she's getting extra veggies when I "sneak" them in there!

Can hummus be made in the crock pot?
It seems to take forever to get soft, even if I soak it all night.
