If its organic and well-cooked I don't see why not. Another option would be organic ground turkey.

My dd eats ground beef. I was nervous to give it to her for a while, but then again, I wa nervous to give her anything when she started eating!! I think around age 1 I was comfortable with giving it. I was afraid it was too chewy I guess, lol.

Kids need fat...a lot more than we need. And, an extra bonus to beef is that if its organic and grassfed, its high in Omega-3's!

Is she a year old? I thought beef(all red meat) was something we waited until after the year point to introduce....and by that I mean Annie (P-T-M)said to and gave me some thing from Kelly Mom to reference I believe and I did it!

hmm - I dunno but I found this quote from this LLL page:

There is a slight variation between the AAP and LLLI on complementary foods. Whereas LLLI advises against the need for routine iron supplementation and iron-fortified foods, in this book the AAP recommends iron-fortified cereal as a first food for babies. In contrast, it is LLL's recommendation that meat be introduced as a good second food, right after banana and sweet potato, because of meat's high iron and protein content (See The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, 6th Edition, page 236.). The introduction of meat as an early food for six- or seven-month-old babies is discussed in detail in Leaven Vol. 35 No. 6, December 1999-January 2000, p. 130, "Introducing Complementary Foods" which states that, "Meat has also been recommended as an excellent source of iron in infancy. Heme iron (the form of iron found in meat) is better absorbed than iron from plant sources. In addition, the protein in meat helps the baby more easily absorb the iron from other foods." (See www.laleche league.org/llleaderweb/LV/LVDec99Jan00p130.html.)

Ahh...Shelly is right. I think we waited until almost 1 too, for red meat, but I can't find anything to support waiting. :I honestly don't remember, and I don't remember why you would wait...is it tummy troubles?
