Ah, so you have a stupid lefty too? You can express a little milk out to relieve the pain - but leave that breast full so that it gets the signal to stop making so much milk. Put cabbage leaves in your bra. Take a tylenol. Use a cold compress on that breast between nursings.

Here is more info on engorgement.

My grandma was a midwife and she reccomends using cabbage leaves. She said if you put them in the freezer to get them chilly, then kind of crush them a little and put them in your bra it will relieve the pressure.

Yes! yes! nurse! It is best for the baby to empty the breast. Helps you feel better, helps prevent infection.

Beware of pumping! If you pump before your body has a chance to regulate your supply, you will nd up making MORE milk to replace what you pumped out. If you need some releif, pump a little (as in as little as possible.) If you pump a lot your body will think, "this baby is hungry. better make more milk." And you will end up even more engorged. It is best to hand express a little to releive the pain.
