Default Using Breast Shields to Collect Milk?

My daughter is just 3weeks old, and I am thinking about introducing the bottle, and we do not have a pump (yet). Will it be all right to collect milk using a breast shield? My milk supply is good and the feedings have been going very well. I always leak from the 2nd side when feeding from the first. A friend told me that she read somewhere that collecting this way would contaminate the milk. I'd appreciate any insight! I have not been able to find anything about this in my books...

You could just hand express milk right in to a clean bowl (or bottle if your talented). This video is great and shows hand expressing.

I agree with hand expression, seems easier and faster to me.

It is not recommended to save the milk that collects in breast shells.

I confer with the suggestion of hand expression.
